Workactive Wellness…”getting better all the time”!!

Congratulations to Elgas National Maintenance truck driver, Graeme for making great progress on the Workactive Wellness program.

The work environment of truck drivers usually means prolonged sitting and deadlines to meet and finding the time to get healthy food can be tricky.

Graeme, started the Workactive Wellness program on 30 August 2017 with the goal of stopping smoking and reducing his waist circumference to a healthy level within 6 months. In eight weeks, Graeme has cut his smoking by 50% (down from 20 per day to 10 per day)  and has reduced his waist to 107 cm (down from 112 cm).

What’s even better, is that Graeme’s partner has also cut her smoking as well as adopted some of his new healthy habits!

What are some of these healthy habits?

Graeme has started eating Basmati rice and wholemeal bread instead of white and has reduced his sugar intake as well as making better eating choices during the day, including making his own sandwiches to take to work. He has also increased his level of physical activity.

In addition to adopting some simple but powerful, healthy habits, Graeme has a great sense of humour. When he sent the pics through, he said that we may use them on social media, provided we add some hair to his receding hairline. After sharing a joke that the author could also do with a similar enhancement, Graeme retorted that it becomes a real problem when you wake up to find that your grandchildren have drawn pictures on your scalp!

Graeme rates his overall well being as 75% better within 6 weeks of starting the program and said:”…it’s getting better all the time.” That would make a great first line for a song. But more to the point, how is it possible to feel that much better in a matter of 6-8 weeks?

It comes down to three things:Good thinking habits, good eating habits and good activity habits. But most people already know that right?

Like achieving any goal, the secret is in the “why” that is meaningful to you, then having the determination and persistence to see it through. When it comes to well being, the combination of a few small but precise changes to what you regularly eat, coupled with an increase (where necessary) of your level of physical activity, can often produce profound physical and mental benefits within a very short time.

A good sense of humour will also make that journey a lot more enjoyable !

Stay tuned for more updates on Graeme’s progress.
